As the Raptors’ shooting woes have mounted and the team has dipped under .500, fans have another worry: French fries.
The Raptors have run a promotion with McDonald’s the last four seasons where fans get free medium fries if the team sinks 12 three-pointers in a game.
“This season, it feels like it never happens,” fan Yonis Badar says. “It feels like you’ll never get it.”
The Raptors made 12 three-pointers or more in 48 games last season, shooting 34.9 per cent from deep and averaging 11.9 makes per game. They entered Friday having hit 12 just nine times in 28 games this year. Their three-point percentage was just 30.6 over their last 10 games. The opportunities for fries have been seldom.
And when the Raptors make a dozen this season, there is another obstacle to getting the fries: a minimum $1 purchase at McDonald’s. During the Raptors’ championship season, fans just needed to download the McDonald’s app and claim their prize. The Star reached out to McDonald’s for comment regarding the promotion but did not hear back.
“I remember back then, I would go all the time because I’d just show up to get some fries and cut,” Noel Fermin says. “I don’t go as much anymore because now you have to (make) the initial payment.”
Some fans feel the number of threes should go down as their investment goes up.
